The Cosmograph Daytona was introduced in 1963. It was projected to meet the rigorous demands of professional race drivers. The success of the Rolex Daytona is largely due to Sir Malcolm Campbell, a legendary personality in the motorsport world, who was also known as the Speed King, and was also the first Rolex Ambassador. In his Blue Bird race cars, Sir Malcolm Campbell set several land-speed records both in Europe and at a racetrack in a little-known Florida city called Daytona Beach wearing a Rolex Daytona on his wrist. The Cosmograph Daytona 116518LN is presented with a 40mm yellow gold case. It’s meteorite dial with black sub dials features a central sweep seconds hand allows an accurate reading of 1/8 second, while the two counters on the dial display the elapsed time in hours and minutes. The combination of its dial features and it fixed tachymetric scale allows drivers to measure their average speed (up to 400 kilometers per hour) and to accurately map their track times and tactics with extraordinary precision. Additionally the Daytona 116518LN Chronograph is water resistant down to 100 meters. Approximately the Daytona 116518LN has a power reserve of 72 hours.
